Images from around Argyll, Scotland.
An area of amazing skies, history, wildlife,
seascapes and scenery.
Welcome to my website. I finally relocated to Argyll in October 2011 after many years of trying. I count myself lucky to live here and actively involve myself in being a part of the community through my work and leisure interests. The region is large and very remote, comprising sea lochs, freshwater lochs, moors, peat bogs, coastline, mountains and canals. Castles and prehistoric sites can be found everywhere as evidence of mans presence over the last 5000 years.
Wildlife thrives in abundance due to the lack of disturbance, Pine Martens, Golden Eagles, Seals, Deer and rare butterflies such as the Chequered Skipper that are only found in this region of the British Isles are just some of the highlights. The area lies under amazing skies from sunrise to sunset, the mountains and seas helping to form the weather patterns and rapidly changing light that creates some of the best photographic opportunities in the world.
The area is kept green and lush by its many rainy days, this creates wonderful waterfalls and gushing burns that tumble down the hillsides till they find a loch or the sea. Snow scenes, especially of the mountains are possible for many months of the year although the gulf stream keeps the climate milder than other areas of Scotland and snow at sea level is rarer than elsewhere.
The flora of the area is spectacular and unique, wild flowers line the roadsides and fill the meadows whilst the regions many gardens hold collections of exotic plants from around the world due again to the nature of the climate. I decided to create a website so I could showcase my photographs and share my passion for the area I live in. I hope you enjoy browsing and I welcome your feedback. Click on the individual photo's on each page to open a larger window.
